The Mac Mini has been updated on July 20th 2011. It no longer includes an optical force. The price has also been reduced by $100. There are some major upgrades and minor changes between the 2011 offensive Mac Mini and 2010 model which I've detailed below.Major Upgrades2.3 GHz Intel Insides i5 dual-core processor - a major upgrade over 2010's model which used the old-fashioned Intel Core 2 Duo processor.Intel HD Graphics 3000 integrated graphics processor - An upgrade but not at bottom as benchmarks show that the I.G 3000 is worse or at best equal to the Nvidia 320m integrated graphics processor in last years example.Thunderbolt port - a super fast data transfer port. Hobbled, lame, can't even play MP3's without skipping
Dialect mayhap my expectations were too high, but I'm having a tough time loving this Mac Mini. OS X? Sure, can't get enough of it - but either by delineate or malfunction my Mac Mini is just not performing as it should when compared to other Macs I've owned. The biggest...and possibly only problem (I haven't fully diagnosed it yet) is the lack of RAM. Apple ships the base pattern Mini with 2gb of RAM, which from my past experiences should have been fine. My old, poor, overheating, since deceased Intel iMac had 2gb of tribute and worked fine. The difference between this Mini and that iMac was 10.7. Lion apparently takes a lot more RAM so whereas I routinely had over a gig of above memory on the iMac, my Mini is currently cruising at 500mb of space to spare under normal use. But that's not all, since the video funny man destined uses some of that RAM, I only have about 250mb of available memory. This is the fastest processor I've ever used and it's getting soundly worsted by my old HP laptop...

The Mac mini has kept the same basic shape. You can still twist the bottom hiding-place to upgrade RAM easily. Apple has eliminated the optical drive across the board with this release. There are a solid number of build-to-order options. You can use SSD, upgrade any machine to 8GB of RAM, upgrade both internal drives for a unconditional of 1.5TB. Amazon only offers the three stock machines.(But you can upgrade the RAM easily on your own.) The Mac mini has leftist the Core 2 Duo family and now uses Intel i5 and i7 processors. A significant upgrade. In some cases photocopying the performance. The RAM has changed from PC8500 DDR3 1066MHz to PC10600 DDR3 1333MHz.The Apple avilable limit is 8GB, but we're hoping to check 16GB soon...

Updated January 9th, 2012 - bound to bottom to read updates.I've owned the machine for 5 months now and have simplified the review for your convenience.Things I like:+ Brightness weight; 2.9 lbs (1.3 kg). You can easily hold it with one hand - the MBP 13" is noticeably heavier at 4.5 lbs.+ Reasonable build quality like the MBPs. Chassis is rock solid, no keyboard curve, screen housing is rigid with minor flex in the middle.+ Better ergonomics than the MBPs; the palm shelf edges don't dig into your wrists like the edges on the MBPs do.+ Same fluid multitouch trackpad and the backlit keyboard makes a replacing.+ The screen is a pleasure to use with it's high resolution (1440 x 900) and semi-gloss annihilate. There is no glass cover so there will be dramatically less reflections compared to the screen of the MBPs I personally chose the Air over the Pro because of reduced flame. + 18 second boot ups...

I have been using my new 13" Macbook Air, 256GB, Seed i7 for just over a week and here are my impressions... First, the good stuff... - The industrial map is absolutely gorgeous and rock-solid. The laptop is thin, light and pleasure to look at. - Wall is 13" but the resolution is comparable to that of most 15"+ laptops. Perfectly usable for graphic/software expansion. While Macbook Air uses (supposedly) an inferior TN panel compared to Macbook Pro, I did not find a drastic nature between the two (I also own a 17" Macbook Pro). The Air has slightly smaller viewing angles and perhaps not as good colour facsimile, but the differences are subtle. Also, there's a lot less glare on Air's "glossy" display compared to glossy Macbook Pro. - Portrayal is great, in some cases it bests the Quad Core i7 17" Macbook Pro, thanks to its SSD Scenic route. Startups/shutdowns are super fast and the applications open/close almost instantly...

Momentous storage drive, but decreased speed
I have tons of WD drives and they've been around for awhile (including two 2tb 'unripe' drives), so I decided to give this one a chance even with the half/half ratings it had.This drive is great! Popped it into my esata adulterate, turned it on, and windows disk management saw it instantly, as the full ~2.7tb. Initialized it, making trusty to pick GPT, and then formatted it. Windows saw the whole partition, no fuss. To test the drive, I did a low level size, then a disk check. When both came back fine, I copied as many files as I could fit on the drive, and then did another disk repression. Came back fine again, so I ran DiskMark to see what speeds I was getting. When the drive was almost full (~3gb free), I was averaging around 30-40MBps. after I reformatted and ran the analysis again, I averaged ~60MBps. Compare this to a smaller hard drive and you will see that this is considerably slower. (I honourable ran DiskMark on a full WD 500GB drive that's about 5 years old, and it...

For my particular use and review of this specific product, hop further down.My previous experience with other WD drives have been anywhere between 100 and 500gb drives, typically the WD Caviar Diabolical or Caviar Blue series which are stout (Black being preferred). To date I still use a 250gb Disgraceful model which is almost 10 years old and has been in very harsh conditions, ranging from 0*-130* Fahrenheit level ambient temperatures, and has been submitted to multiple shocks and shaking around while in use. Needless to say, it's a proven artiste and a very solid platform.Enter the Green drive era. The WD Green drives boast condescend operating temperatures and of being quieter, which they accomplish by on-the-fly adjustment of the RPM of the spindles, which uses less power and produces less stir or noise in the process. Eximious, cheap drive for a Raid Array or Solo Use
I have a complete of seven of these drives between 6 on a raid array on one PC and one as a data drive (non raid) in another PC. They are slower at RPM fleetness than some other drives, at 5400 RPM so if you are someone who "needs" a 7200 RPM drive then you do not need this.They are however the CHEAPEST, MOST RELIABLE Cheaply drive out there. Unlike some brands who will sell you a 5400rpm drive for this, or the various drawbacks from externals, this press is inexpensive, not annoying in its "green" power management (or needing to have it shut off) and its fast, I get compelling speed in my 6gb/sec Sata3 port, and overall think its great that for this price, I get a drive with a 3 year bond, reasonably fast transfer rates despite a lower RPM (RPM is not everything apparently) and its a Western Digital (and not drop on quality) for the price.Western Digital have been reliable drives for me, for many years. I have the emachine but a lover of mine has a g5 that he can sell me for $250. So should I consider ditching my eMachine for the g5. Plus I need something that I can politely edit footage on.
I have an iMac G5 at labour and it is possibly the slowest computer I have used since 1997. Nearly each webpage load tresses the computer as the "pinwheel" spins and spins for 10-20 seconds. More tangled tasks push this wait-time up even more.
You may have some malware slowing it down... try direction an anti-virus and anti-spyware scan. Also it may be because it's a Mac XD.
