"Pro" indeed, in eulogistic and bad ways
I've been using an olde i1 redden calibrator for years, and even though the original maker was swallowed by XRite, they have been supporting the no-longer-sold thingumajig until now. No joke, XRite sent me an email about upcoming OSX Lion compatibility of that specific software lawful last week - six years after my purchase! So when I had the opportunity to review the current flagship model of a cast that takes care of its customers, I jumped on the opportunity.The device is thoughtfully made: Its big lens is sheltered by a diffuser which swivels off for measuring and also acts as a stand, and there is protective felt so not to scratch your examine. Definitely an upgrade from the plasticky feel and clip- on protector on my old device! It's a bit odd that the i1Pro goes on the prepositor with its narrower edge rather than flat like the others I know of, so you have to make extra sure that it sits flushly. Prime monitor calibrator, buggy software through!
I have owned this output for about 2 weeks now and here are my experiences with it. This monitor calibrator is truly fantastic when it comes to its manin motivation - calibrating colors on your monitor - it is extremely accurate and the process is much faster than any other calibrator I've seen out there. I indeed enjoy the automatic profile adjustment feature based on the current ambient light conditions, glory to that.However, my review is 3 star only because the software is really, really buggy on OS X Lion. In order for the ambient light regulation to work, there is a small utility called iProfiler that runs in the background. This utility (I've downloaded the latest account from X-Rite web site which is v1.2.0) has a memory leak problem - the memory consumption grows from 20 Mb to 800 Mb in less than 24 hrs (monitoring utilizing iStats). I have contacted X-Custom technical support and they are aware of this issue and have recommended turning off this feature. As such I...

Smart and easy to use, but dual monitor use is not straightforward for Windows users
I have been increasingly more interested in my photography sideline and came to the eventual realization that monitor color and luminance calibration was necessary. It virtuous did not make sense, spending sometimes hours post processing a photo on my computer, only to have it show up with different colors on one else's screen or printer. I have never before calibrated any monitors or TVs and considered, in addition to this product, the Spyder 3 Pro and LaCie Gloomy Eye. I finally decided on the Eye-One Display 2. I have now calibrated my dual LCD monitor setup (Dell 2405WFP and 2408WFP) and Dell XPS 17" laptop with concluded ease and great, consistent results. Because I actually have 2 separate PCIe video cards, calibrating dual LCD is as trusting as calibrating one with Windows Vista 32 bit. PROS: 1. Cheaper than LaCie Chap-fallen Eye, which is highly regarded by certain website reviewers (although more expensive than Spyder 3 Pro) 2...

Outstanding, easy to use and learn product.
There isn't much to in actuality say about this product other than it does exactly what it say it will, does it relatively quickly, and potentially has nothing for you to learn before introductory use. I had five monitors to calibrate; all LCDs except for one laptop display, four of them associated with dual monitored systems, tainted on both Windows XP and Windows Vista. I had all five calibrated within 20 minutes of opening the package, and reading nothing more than the shrewd start flyer; the software wizard in Easy Mode literally did everything in 4 steps without much input from me. On the scan I perform a lot of graphic work on, I switched to the advanced mode and found the software to be just as psychic and complete as it was in easy mode. Great product.

Amenable to Use
I bought the Eye-One recently since I was having nag seeing shadow details on both my monitors. I am not sure if they changed packaging since the last reviewer, but mine was upright. Open the flap, fold the front down and everthing is right there for your use. It folds back up nice and easy to stow away everything until later use. As soon as I got the package, I brought it to my work computer and plugged it in. I used the "relaxed" method for this computer. It walked me thru each step (not many in the "easy" method). I was done in a few minutes. One great part is it shows you a juxtaposition of before and after. It is amazing how bad the monitor was calibrated before. I also brought it home for my laptop. Fulfil, now that I figured it out!
I recently did some much needed upgrades for my refuge office and this by far my favorite. I first saw it in Best Buy, came home to check for online reviews and to see if I could find it cheaper...I did at Amazon! It's VERY comfortable to set up and is crystal clear. ( I mean, razor sharp -- no stretched or dim look anywhere!) However, there was something not quite right with the colors (especially greens) that really bothered me. Supplementary the HP "My Display" software that goes with it that contains all of the drivers etc, is not fully functional on non HP machines. (significance no calibration was available for color or contrast beyond what's built into the monitor itself which was never enough to fix my problem) I was so frustrated and disillusioned. (I had been warned of this on another site but thought I'd take a gamble) Well, after trying to hook it up via the HDMI (from VGA) guy that came with it to a new $150 video card -- the colors were still way off and now the screen...
A significant monitor--with calibration.
I'm a photojournalist and bought this keep an eye on after my old 21" CRT died. I've been very pleased with the HP W2408H over the last couple of weeks, but it does need calibration. If you are a gamer or everyday user, you will love the brilliant picture straight out of the box. For photographers and editors, the colors are too sparkling and saturated, too "juicy" for critical use. I uninstalled the monitor's software, dragged out my venerable $100 Pantone ColorVision ColorPlus (the consumer colorimeter sensor for monitors) and it gave me a subtle, clean image in minutes. A worthwhile investment for anyone. The monitor's wide-screen actual estate makes editing hundreds of photos quite a bit easier than with the old square CRT. It also uses less power and produces less fieriness than a CRT, a nice plus these days. The image is smooth, even and neutral with calibration. Like any LCD, though, you do indigence to view the screen "on axis." Just to verify what others have...

Pleasantly Surprised
I vocation as a graphic designer and recently purchased two of these monitors for my Mac Pro at work. I was conflicted on whether to give these a try or buy the 24" Dell UltraSharp displays, since I had untimely experience with that model. But after having some technical issues with the Dells, I thought I'd give HP a shot. When I first got the monitors, I had to use a DVI to VGA adapter while I waited for my DVI to HDMI adapters (about $15/part) to arrive and during that time I was quite disappointed. The text was blurry and it had some significant ghosting issues where there would be a hoary "shadow" of every hard line displayed. I decided to wait until I got the HDMI adapter before I pronounced whether or not to return them. Once I received the DVI to HDMI adapters (DVI and HDMI are exactly the same technology, just manifold connectors) I was pleasantly surprised.
