With Intel Centre 2 Duo (Santa Rosa) processors, available Blu-ray disc drive, available nVidia dedicated graphics, a reasonably stout build, and eight available colors, is the affordable 1420 the best 14.1" notebook handy.Customer ReviewsUtter Dissatisfy, but it works.I bought this Dell inspiron about a year ago to refund my 6-year old gateway. I looked around at prices for lightweight but powerful laptops including macs, gateways, hps and sonys. The inspiron is not the lightest close by for its power class (core 2 duo, 3G ram, 250G hard drive) and it even got miserable reviews on the freestyle life, but for the price, there was no competition. Pros: Regular battery regularly lasts over 3.5 hours even after 1 year of circadian use. 9-cell battery regularly lasts over 5 hours even after 1 year of daily use. It's pink :) Built in webcam, speakers, microphone all devoted for skyping etc. SD card reader and USB's on BOTH sides (6 total) make for subtle use of a portable mouse & other gadgets. Cons: It's really fat and heavy. In fact my first impression of what I cerebration would be a lightweight model was "oh crap it's heavy!" When I tried to buy a protective sleeve, the... Excellent WORKHORSE I have been using this laptop for years - my trusty Dell Inspiron 1420. Never a puzzle, works endlessly and is endlessly useful and reliable. My personal favorite and I even have "always on" internet with it built in. Immensely recommended. Enthusiastic computer I fall out on many points with the previous reviewer. I agree on all the good points, and yes, this laptop is a bit on the heavy side, but it's the one I keep at home on my desk and IS far portable from room to room. I have also traveled with it and used it at work many times without any problems, but because of its assay and weight, I do prefer using my netbook for travel. However, part of the reason it may be a little heavy is because it is a unfailing and well-built computer, one built to last! I have had absolutely no problems with the keyboard or with anything else, and suspect maybe there was something defective with the sometime reviewer's computer. I also love the crystal-clear display and the large screen. My computer is black and silvery and I love its elegant yet retro look. I purchased it over two years ago, and expect and hope to be using it for several more years. Even my stillness, who is a diehard Mac user/fan, enjoys using my computer!

Lenovo's ThinkPad UltraBase also features a DVD±RW impetus so you can enjoy your favorite DVD movies.Customer ReviewsArousing PortableThis is a periodical of the Lenovo x220 Core i7 with 128 Gb SSD (rather than 320 Gb hard drive) and bought instantly from Lenovo. Came with 2 Gb RAM but I put in 8 Gb of Crucial RAM for $94. This little machine in this configuration is pricey but in fact screams. Boots in 20 seconds; shuts down in 7 seconds; switches programs with iPAD2-like bolt. Great keyboard for touch-typing, but Thinkpads always have the best keyboards IMO. The screen is extraordinarily gifted. Weighs about 3 lbs. I've gotten b/w 6-7 hours on the battery with typical office use. Three USB ports (one hot) and HDMI/VGA. I use the x220 with Dragon By nature Speaking, and it handles the software very well -- the best of any laptop I've used with Dragon. My accuracy has improved, and digitized paragraph pops on the screen quicker than any other machine I've used. This is my seventh Thinkpad, and I've had very good fate with all of them. I think Lenovo has a winner with the x220, especially with SSD. I doubt I'll... Terrific Notebook except: Touchpad is unusable I am a longtime Lenovo notebook fan -- I own an x100, 120E, T61, x200, and x201, and now an x220. The absolute reason I have stuck with the brand is the quality keyboards and Matte displays. In terms of battery-operated life and processor speed, this notebook is outstanding. However -- the touchpad was completely redesigned for the x220 and Lenovo blew it here. If you are typing a chronicle, you'll find that the cursor flies all over the screen as you type -- even if you have the 'turn touchpad off while typing' option checked! It's hugely annoying. The problem is that your hands are always resting on the touchpad if your fingers are on the keyboard. In previous designs, this was not the chest. The only workable solution for me is to completely disable the touchpad, which is stepping back to an earlier era. My x200 doesn't have a touchpad either, so I don't assuredly need to have one, but they're nice to have. I agree with another reviewer here who... Happiest I've been with a Mac or Win laptop in years... possibly ever! Too many satisfactory things to list... bright screen, fantastic keyboard even though small with my big fingers, lightweight, colossal battery life... Turn off wifi with the exterior switch and I get 5+ hours on this on shirty-country flights, working away with the screen on full bright.I somehow missed that it would come with the docking site and optical drive, which is just what I wanted but had decided to delay purchasing... that puts it at precisely the right angle on my desk... and the only place I need cdrom / dvdrom. The ergo is inordinate, and I have to admit that Win7 has it right, perhaps even over my life-long Mac admiration. What a great, fantastic product. Glory Lenovo!

Customer ReviewsGood-hearted Mid-Range Laptop Choice for Students and Casual UsersI've owned several laptops and would be considered an transitional to advanced computer user. I've built my own desktops, tweaked a few laptops and owned various brands of laptops including HP, Fujitsu, Sony and Dell (Inspiron, Latitude and XPS series). I purchased this true laptop directly from Dell (got a better deal than current Amazon pricing) based upon Consumer Piece's November 2009 article recommendations where the Dell Inspiron 1545 was rated a 'Best Buy' for every day computing. I purchased it for my save who will use it primarily for watching an occasional movie from Netflix streaming wirelessly on our home network, emailing to percentage jokes and videos with his friends, and browsing the Internet. After setting it up, which other than running into a rip with my home network was a breeze, and playing with it for about an hour, these are my impressions. We bought the Dell Inspiron 15 (1545) to renew an aging ACER laptop as an "everyday" laptop for my teen son to use for homework and casual gaming. For the price, the demeanour, features and display have far exceeded our expectations. While not a gaming or graphics power machine, it has more than enough processor hustle, memory, and hard drive space for our needs. This is a very simple laptop to set up and use. The box only contains the PC (with mobile already installed), the power supply, and a packet of software CDs (which I did not use) with minimal documentation. The instructions recommended charging the laptop for 12 hours before using the battery-operated, which was fine as I just left it plugged in while configuring the machine. The initial setup took about 20 minutes, and was very uncurved forward as it found and connected right away to my WEP protected home WiFi network. The Windows 7 configuration was honourable forward and no errors were encountered. Dell also... I accord, Dell is Unethical I also have had issues with Dell and the Inspiron 1545. Firstly, there is a known outlet with the cursor randomly jumping to a different spot while typing. At first I thought it was an issue with MS Word, but then it began occasion anywhere I was typing outside of Word such as Gmail or even writting a review for Amazon. Researching the emergence online, I found I was not alone with this problem. Trying to get support from Dell was a joke. They give you the run around until you give up. Then, about 3 months after I bought it, the touchpad stopped working. I only paid $649.00 for the gadget, so I expected mid-level performance, but needless to say I was disappointed with my first Dell laptop. I own 2 Dell desktops that I have had no issues with. However, I will not be buying another Dell laptop. |

Most in all probability, you're hitting the touchpad with the in straitened circumstances of your calligraphy control while you're typing. This makes the cursor move to where the laptop thinks you're weighty it to go. At best try to keep your wrists up a bit. You can also drive back off the touchpad, either with a deflection (if your ideal has one) or through the hold sway over panel settings.
My Dell Laptop cursor jumps all over when I type. The touchpad set high. It still happens what can it be?
Its an inspiron 1525 if that helps.
I also own the 1525. I put forward if you have the ability, use an external mouse and disable the touch-pad. Other than that, you need to turn the susceptibility to about 1/3 of the bar. You can also remove the mouse program and make the touch-pad standard
