I've been waiting for nothing but the right netbook. This is it!I have been in the market for a netbook for over a year now. I have send forth many a hour pouring over reviews online, watching youtube unboxings and reviews, and indeed doing a lot of hands on in retail stores with all of the options out there. I am thrilled to say that after only 24 hours with the Toshiba NB305-N410WH, I skilled in that I waited for just the right one. The reviews for its' predecessor (the NB205) had put that netbook on the top of most professional reviewers muster. And, indeed in my own hands on tests, it was right at the top as well. My main concern was the battery that stuck out of the back on that model. I had be received b affect close to overlooking this drawback, as I was so pleased with the rest of the model. What kept me from it was a concern I had presume from from some reviews indicating that sometimes streaming video would skip or get stuck (a universal concern on most netbooks)either due to processor or graphics. TOSHIBA NB305-N310: Gigantic MACHINE, BUT CAN YOU TRUST IT?
Preamble I regretfully gave the Toshiba NB305-N310 three stars after thorough research and burning hands-on evaluation. For the hardware alone, it clearly deserves five stars. But I was generous in only deducting two stars for the software and its nefarious more. If you are capable of, and have the time for, a complete reinstall of Windows or Linux and reinstallation of some number of the thirty-seven drivers and utility files from the Toshiba Website, then you will have a five-inimitable netbook. If you are not, then this netbook, like so many others, will not really be your friend. Or else it will be like a bad friend who spies on you, monitors you, deceives you, and leaves your tranquil wide open while housesitting. My reasons and criteria for finally selecting this netbook will definitely be different than those of others. But I assure you, I have considered even those elements which did not concern me as well as issues and reviews...
First Netbook Superb!
I will acquiesce this is my first netbook but I do have two laptops and two other desktops in the house. The keyboard is absolutely great on this machine, it is what fascinated me to the Toshiba initially. I have had this machine for about a week now and so far there is nothing that I can really complain about. The battery life is unthinkable, although I have yet to try to drain it. Today the machine was on, but not in constant use, for over six hours and it still showed 40% battery being. The screen is very good and even though only 10.1" I am forgetting that I'm on a small machine. Very spacious hard vigour at 250GB. This prompted me to permanently move my iTunes collection to this machine so that I can update my podcasts and sync regularly while itinerant. I purchased the machine primarily as a personal and entertainment machine while travelling for area. I am able to keep it next to my full size work laptop while responding to email or other tasks and easily "jump"...

Brilliant Fast laptopUPDATE:::: 3+ Weeks since I got this.... More unwieldy softwares(even ones that run during start up) / games / videos have gone in, but the performance is positively the same. Audio capabilities of this laptop is simply stunning.... I have a HDTV and a Sony Home theater system. When I couple this laptop to the TV and listen to MP3 songs, the audio output is just amazing.... Made me feel like dancing to the Music downbeat.... I am comparing this with a 2 year old Gateway laptop that I own (does not have a HDMI connectivity, so use VGA Cables as contrasted with... Well advantage the price
I have had this laptop for the last 2 weeks. I righteous love it. The screen size is pefect. I dont have to travel much so the size suits me well. The laptop is unequivocally fast and the screen is bright (HD LED). The audio is really great. Well one thing Dell ought to have improved is the ballyhoo of the fan. Otherwise no complaints.
Software indecisive and unsupported
I purchased an Inspiron 1764 laptop fundamentally because the combination of specs, features and price was unbeatable. The system began to malfunction shortly after I installed elementary security and office software. It would not connect to my HP printer. There were local network and driver errors, along with customary hangs, bluescreen crashes and other problems. Dell tech support blamed me for "corrupting" their operating system and said I would have to pay super for software service, since their "limited" warranty covers only hardware. I restored the machine to mill settings, only to see the problems reappear. Despite my extensive experience as a computer professional, I was unable to fix the software problems. Internet check in showed I was not alone. These issues appear to be specific to Dell systems, since I have another vendor's laptop also running Windows 7 and the selfsame application software, with no problems whatsoever. Enthusiastic netbook with FULL keyboardTremendous little netbook at an affordable price. Specs are pretty standard for a 2010/2011 netbook: 1G RAM, 250Gb HD, 3 USB ports, central video camera, separate Mic & headphone jacks, sd card slot, vga output and a very beneficial 8h battery life. There are a lot of netbooks like this on the market, but what really stands out for me on this one is the keyboard, FULL size out-and-out keys with ALL the cursor movement keys: DEDICATED up, down, right,left, PGUP, PGDN, Knowledgeable in and END. I work a lot with excel spreadsheets and it is really uncomfortable to move pressing fn+end/up orf+end/down or ctrl+fn+home, ctrl+fn+end, etc. to move around. Also scrolling with pgup/pgdown while reading a covet web page is a pain when you have to press also the fn key! With most netbooks you have to live with the fn key, not in this case, the NB505 keyboard is absolutely practical and comfortable, almost like a full laptop or pc keyboard, even do the position of the keys is not standard, they let you do the work...
Tough Netbook - Excellent Second Computer
I bought this computer a few weeks ago and so far my circumstance has been very positive. This netbook is solidly constructed and is ready to use out of the box. The keyboard isn't difficult to use and the trackpad is OK - a barely oversensitive for my taste. Unlike many other systems it doesn't come with a lot of bloatware - trial versions of programs you don't appetite anyway. There is some, but almost all for arguably useful programs. The included Toshiba software seems well-designed even though I personally have no use for it. As for fly like the wind, the computer is powerful enough for a netbook, and will run net-based and home office applications smoothly. Of course, it falls hurriedly for more intense use like video editing, image processing or games - but then again, that's not what this computer is for. However, the Atom processor in this item is on its way out, and for about $100 more you can get a netbook that is considerably faster. Nevertheless, or a solid, cheap, ultraportable...

I announce a lot of the reviews before i bought this little netbook, glad i ignored most of them. This is a great little gizmo, It's not for gamers. It's not for techies. But it's fitting for surfin the web, email, facebook and day to day stuff or travel to keep in touch. It's small (the keyboard takes a thimbleful practise) and light weight. it's more than fast enough. People who expect this to run and do all the things a desktop or full measurements/function laptop do are being silly. It's not what this is for. I like it a lot.

The Fn key doesn't bend on or off. It is just a key. You need to turn the Number Lock off. So look for a key that says NmLk. You may want to hold down the Fn key to use the NmLk key. It should be color coded.
