Respectable looking user interface, good sound, neat features. Now that I've had it for a year, it has some warts:* Buttons are very limited and require precision to push. You have to push right in the middle of a tiny button to persuade it work, which isn't a great feature for something you'll interact with while driving.* Most setup options require you to put in the "private footshake" of pressing the parking brake and foot brake to get to the setup menu. This includes things as classic as changing the clock or the color of the background graphics.* The CD player in mine has stopped working. It's been one year and it won't scan an MP3 DVD at all, always saying "Disc error". I've tried some cleaning CDs, but it refuses to play them with the same error communication. That being said, it still sounds great. But if I had it all to do over again I would buy a different unit. Alpine is terrifying but.... I girlfriend Alpine units, thats all i ever liked. that being said, this unit is awesome, it was awesome when i installed it over a year ago, but now that the assurance is up, and its over a year old, the dvd player freezes and stops all the time, will not play any dvds, new or used and straight keeps freezeing, i called the Alpine tech help and they said the laser eye is quite failing, and if just send them my unit in a box with a written note in with it they would fix it for $110.00, well already paying over 600 for it, you would entertain the idea it would last more an a few years, all my other Alpine units did, i had one last over 10 years and sold it to a friend when i got this one and its still going self-willed in his truck, different unit but still working and its over 12 years old. so that being said, i am leary of very recently sending a 600 dollar unit off to some tech place and hope thy get it and fix it right and not care more then they said, well i think they should fix it free if they know of the laser... Leave out, I'm very pleased with this unit... I bought this component to replace a little older Alpine unit (IVA-D310) that time was beginning to d by in that it did not allow for Bluetooth and iPod integration. I've been using my new IVA-D106 for a couple of weeks now and I like it a lot. It's also on the same wave length with my Alpine 872A DVD Navigation unit, otherwise I would not have bought it...No front plate LED readout like my D310 had and the filter seems to have a little too much glare in sunlight and changing the monitor angle doesn't really ease but still all-in-all a nice unit! |
