All-inclusive happy - but usability caveats
I've gone through a army of dissatisfying $100 Panasonic 2.4GHz phones, and tried a Philips VOIP841 (wonderful scratchy audio), and decided that maybe I should just buy a higher end model to get some actual calibre.I bought this and an extra handset (SL78H), and I am generally happy with its performance. Our apartment is 70' x 21', in an old brownstone with numerous smear/brick walls. I originally had the basestation in our home-office at one end of the apartment, and was experiencing some fall off at the other side of the house. I corrected this by moving the basestation into the next room over, so now it's fine at 55' in one direction, and 15' in the other.The audio is very correct, and of course the styling is nice, too. Here are my issues with the phone:1) The Caller ID list shows numbers and when, but NOT names. You have to further scroll and click on an entrance to see name details. The screen is so high resolution, the phone could easily...

I purchased a Siemens Gigaset Sl 785 system for over $600.00 from Amazon about 6 months ago (around June, 2009). One of the handsets developed a question where the screen became excessively bright. I called the help number, the agent tried to fix the phone remotely using a reset style but this did not help. I was told that the phone would be replaced since it was still under warranty. I was told that the company would contact me with a report authorization number within 48 hours. This was more than 3 weeks ago and repeated calls to the company and promises for process have still not resulted in a return authorization. I will update this review periodically and let those who are interested in such issues recognize what happens. So far service has been nonexistent. After spending so much money for an admittedly wonderful phone, you would reflect on that the company would try to do a better job.(update #1 3/10) Finally, after repeated attempts I got a Return Certification #...
Eminent cordless phone, bluetooth sync easy, connects w/outlook contacts
First off all, let me say I was replacing a older Gigaset 4200 series set in the whore-house. So I was familiar with the funky side of the Siemens. I found this new one to be much improved. Sound is superb, it saw my bluetooth headset right in another place, and I imported my Outlook 2007 contacts via a windows 7 PC easily. Very slick looking phone, too. The vade-mecum is simple, small, and easy to read. There is a set-up ledger early on, so I didn't have to go fishing through the chapters to find what I needed. Still, glancing at the directions is likely a must and if that isn't for you, this phone may not be. However, I think Siemens make the best cordless phones out there. Like others have said, I've watched relations members pour through Panasonics, etc, while my Siemens last 10-years.One thing: I had to download the software from Siemens. Definitely the best!
I bought 3 SL78H handsets to travail with the SL785. These are fantastic. The size and appearance makes them a great addition to any desktop or nightstand. The digital however display changes to just the time and dims after a few moments so it does not leave a flashing light glowing and keeping you awake. Alternatively, you can set the display to show an analog clock (one with hands).Vehicle quality is fantastic, features are comprehensive, and the range is excellent. The built-in phone libretto allows you to have multiple numbers associated with each entry, e.g., home, mobile, work, and by using the included software which can download your Forecast contacts to the phone book, you can program bypass numbers for 3rd party international rite providers. Not indubitably what I had hoped
Technically - this phone does everything that I wanted. It talks to a Bluetooth headset, it downloaded my friend list from Outlook, it automatically answers as I lift it out of the cradle. It feels hefty and substantial.My disappointment? Two things. First - I have the volume cranked and it just isn't loud enough. If my hearing was bad - it would be totally wrong. Unfortunately, I am at the age where that time isn't far off. At the moment, the problem is that I have a senior citizen relative who's voice is tiring to hear on the phone. On my other phones, I crank the volume to hear her - on this one, with the volume all the way up, I'm straining to consider her.My second problem is that the headset is not at all comfortable for me to use. The top of the phone cuts into my ear during long phone calls. It always feels uncomfortable. I got this several weeks ago for my internal office dedicated line. I have to say it is the best phone I've ever had. The volume is low so to resolve that, I have a Panasonic KX-TS3282B and I use a splitter so that I can have a clean speakerphone. And at times when I just don't want to hold the Siemens in my hand for long periods of era, I also have a Plantronics Savi Office WO100 headset that is DECT 6.0 attached to the Panasonic.I've killed the ringer on the Panasonic and removed the handset loop cord from the handset and base. I made termination plugs for both the Savi connection from headset to phone and the handset. One only has to obliterate the handset from the cradle and hit the on button on the side of the headset. No lifters needed. When the call ends I hit the button on the headset to baulk it off and put the handset back into its cradle.I will say that I also would like the volume on the Siemens to be louder, but until they come out with a firmware renew...
