Low-priced, simple and works
This adaptor is noticeably cheaper than many on the market but works perfectly well. It appears robust and well made as well as simple to use.I've not used any other adaptors so don't skilled in if this is universally true but the thing that I liked most about this adaptor is how simple they've made the software that ships with the utensil. There is no fancy front end bloat ware, just a simple set of drivers on a CD.Although, the installation is easy if you have a mundane ammount of knowledge about PCs, it wouldn't have hurt to put a note on the box for the benefit of less tech savy users of how to find the instructions. There are no autograph instructions with the product but there are instructions hidden on the CD. Open it up in explorer and look in the directory with the same name as the issue. The instructions are good and show how to install in straight forward pictures of exactly what to click on.Using Windows XP, Justified insert the CD, plug the adaptor...

Did not m for me
I bought this cablegram to connect my Garmin Frontrunner GPS to my laptop and could not. GPS worked with my desktop (which has built in serial port), but USB to serial cable did not work, even though Windows XP installed the drivers correctly and reported that port is there and could be adapted to. I'm guessing that it works for most products, but beware that it may not work with GPS.

Try your accident, I did... and lost
I took, what I perceived to be a decent risk based on the other reviews and ordered 3 of these devices.I tried the cable on my HP dv5000 which has Windows XP direction on it first. I installed the software that came with it then plugged in the cable to a USB port. The device reported itself as a "Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port" The driver created a port called "COM6". I definite to start simple and plugged in a serial loopback plug to see if the characters I sent to it from Hyper-greatest would be sent right back. Hyper-terminal stopped responding after the first character was typed.I also did not have any success rate when connecting the cable to the device I originally purchased the cable for.When I tried my ThinkPad T60 Windows XP was not gifted to identify the cable after it was plugged into the USB ports. (I tried 3 different USB ports.)The other 2 USB to Serial cables had the same require results. On both laptops.It looks like this...

Works as advertised
It is angry to find a laptop these days that has a serial port. I program machines for a living and an RS-232 port is a necessity as many controllers and devices still have these for programming and configuration. I had purchased a USB-to-RS232 adapter a while back, and though it worked utterly well, it did not work well with Yamaha's RCX robot controllers. I got frustrated and started searching for a PCcard adapter and found this one on Amazon. I have been using it for over a month now and it has worked famous, even with the Yamaha controllers. The only quirk I have found is that there is a parallel port in Device Manager that is associated with this adapter, but it does not physically have one and shows up as scuppered. This hasn't caused any problems, just looks a little strange in Device Administrator.
Irreparable
Supplied with a cd that only has drivers for W2000 !Its doubtlessly living in a time warp. No drivers available on the web despite a reference in the included qualifications.

Everything works as it should. it resolved issues I beforehand had with my USB-to-Serial adapter. I do wish the drivers were easier to install and/or it came with better instructions.

Try this look at memorandum number 130318765602 on e-bay. for $36 you get a USB port programmer. Probably better than any DIY programmer. I did not pay out a lot of time on research so you may be able to do better.
