These are bootlegs, not model IBM TrackPoints
You would Mark that when you buy something labeled with the part number and brand name of what you want, say, "IBM 73P2698 Trackpoint Cap Collection," you'd get what you're expecting. Superficially the seller I chose, amznpmts, disagrees.These are cheaper-plastic knockoffs that look rotten. There is no Lenovo or IBM branding on the packaging and no "I" stamp on the bottom. The Soft Dome and Soft Rim trackpoints are submerged in black spots, (grease or black plastic from manufacturing?) which won't wash off, and this is on the bottom AND top of the trackpoint.I have a legit Allay Dome to compare to, and the real deal is much softer and works better. These are very stiff supple and are a completely different color red than real TrackPoints. Since they're stiffer, they don't work as well, unless you neediness extra stiffness. If you're worried about ergonomics enough to use a Soft Rim, you probably don't!The knockoff Classic Domes do not have bad spots...

Many of you in all likelihood are deciding between the VX nano and this V550 for your notebook (or like me own a bunch of both). My overall preference is the VX nano even though it is more overpriced, because it feels better in the hand and seems to have better built quality. I bought this mould V550 in blue and gray (silver-like look), to replace my Logitech bluetooth mouse pattern V470, and my bluetooth Apple Mighty Mouse. The Apple mouse ended up having problems with the scroll capsule that are well documented elsewhere by other reviewers. I liked the V470 bluetooth in white and silver. It was small, which I like, and a subtle match with my 24 inch iMac computer and keyboard. It had no additional buttons, or switch practice button for Expose', Dashboard, or Spaces. I found buttons on the side of any mouse to be uncomfortable to use any way. However, I hated waiting for it to wake up and affix with bluetooth. It seemed to take forever (maybe 8 to 10 seconds). If you didn't move the mouse for a time, it would mechanically disconnect, and when you wanted to use it again, you had to wait for it to wake up again. I have a Toshiba tecra S1 that I bought about 3 months ago. And until now the pointing stick (Toshiba calls it a AccuPoint) was working and now it isn't, I have a USB mouse plugged in so that can't be the incorrigible, because I unplugged it and the pointing
